Portainer.io: Support Engineer: Who, What, Why & Where

Who are we?

In our first four years, we have experienced staggering global uptake of our Open Source product, with hundreds of thousands of active users and many hundreds of millions of downloads. In the last 12 months, we have made the transition to our first commercial product, backed by an awesome group of global investors.

To help us bring our vision for Portainer to life, we're searching for expressions of interest for skilled and ambitious Support Engineers who will work directly with our clients, ensuring Portainer is delivering on its performance promises.

These are some of the cool things you will do:

  • Collaborate with our friendly and enthusiastic, globally distributed team, to ensure all clients feel the love they deserve.
  • Be an active participant in relevant technical communities (namely Slack, GitHub, Reddit, and Discord) and engage as a Portainer.io representative to assist with any user questions, or provide assistance as deemed necessary.
  • Deliver answers to our client's challenges, big and small, as soon as possible by following support best practice and guidelines.
  • Utilise excellent customer interaction skills and exceed customer requirements
  • Be a conduit between customers, their problems, and the development team helping to improve the Portainer products through identification and communication of bugs and feature requests
  • Help the wider team to update documentation and knowledge base articles with the latest information
  • Engage with the incredible community that is at the heart of Portainer to learn, help, and share their experiences

We'd like to see most or all of these:

  • Experience working with microservices and container technologies (Kubernetes is the priority, but Docker knowledge/experience is also a benefit)
  • A solid understanding of software configuration management and DevOps processes
  • Environment provisioning and management (Linux and Windows) and scripting language experience (Shell, Perl, etc.).
  • Experience with Portainer is a huge plus, but full training will be provided
  • Experience supporting technical customers (internal or external), ideally with support ticket systems
  • An understanding of cloud computing services (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • BS degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field (not essential).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Natural ability to play nice with others - great teamwork, facilitation, communication (in English), interpersonal skills, and the ability to work across functional lines.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
  • Possess an "everything has a solution" mentality and fearless "go-getter" attitude.
  • Ability to wear many hats and juggle many balls simultaneously.

Where?

Portainer is a global company with employees spread across the world. We've invested heavily to ensure that geography doesn't get in our way. The right candidate can work in any country they choose, however, our preference is for the person to either be in a US or European time zone; or have the ability to work the same hours as our US or European clients.
